THE TRUTH ABOUT PLASTICS: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

In 2015, it was estimated that 8.3bn tonnes of virgin plastic had been produced, 79% of which (that’s 6.3bn tonnes) has accumulated in landfills or the natural environment. If current trends production and waste management trends continue roughly 12bn tonnes of plastic will be in landfills or the natural environment by 2050. (1)

For this reason we have organised an event exploring this issue; “The Truth About Plastics: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” This is part of Bath Oceans Plastic Day. We invite you to join us for an inspirational evening with Emily Penn, the woman behind eXXpedition Round the-World, the all-female voyage shifting their sails in search of answers to solve the ocean plastic crisis.

Emily will be joined by speakers from City to Sea and Naturbeads (a University of Bath spinout) to talk about the current state of our oceans, plastic waste, bioplastics myths as well as current research and innovation. Bath based businesses Wessex Water and Finisterre will also present, providing practical solutions and examples of corporate and individual resolution and action. With a lively Q+A session to conclude, this evening promises to provide stimulating food for thought.
